The Three Price Points

Opening Price Point

Lower end of price spectrum, products in the "Good" price point are typically made to be more affordable by using less premium materials. It is the "Opener" for consumers to ease into the market and purchase these products.

"Good"

Middle Price Point

"Better" price point products are slightly more expensive than the previous category by using higher quality materials when manufacturing.

Depending on the product, the increase could be miniscule or exponential.

"Better"

High Price Point

The products in the "Best" category typically use the best quality materials for their products. Some of these materials are very luxury and have distinct premium aesthetic closely resembling each companies' brand identity.

"Best"

"Good" Price Point

Researching products within this price point shows the product made mostly with ABS PlasticAcrylic, and occasionally with Food Grade 304 Stainless Steel. The product used as reference was the Mr. Coffee BVMC - BMG25

The product was taken apart to reverse engineer and also understand how the product was assembled. The color scheme within these price ranges for an electric coffee grinder are usually a darker shade of Gray or Black. With this product also having a stainless steel cover around the outer surface, the overall finish throughout each material on the product are either Matte or Glossy.

"Better" Price Point

Many of the products within this price range share similar aesthetics as the products within the "Good" price range. This is mainly due to the price disparity of the grinder coming down to the function of the grinder more so than the actual build quality of the grinder. However, there has been more instances where manufacturers opted to using BS EN 601 Aluminum over stainless steel.

Some of the products in this price range start to show instances of the entire build being made of aluminum with some parts being plastic, which contrasts the "Good" price point's fully plastic body with a thin layer of stainless steel on the surface.

The colors on the product vary, with manufacturers choosing to have more uniform colors. Brands such as Timemore and Fellow have full White or Black products. These products also frequently have a Matte finish to the exterior.

"Best" Price Point

There is not much difference in the color, material, or finish between the "Best" and "Better" price points. The products are separated by how well it grinds the coffee beans and the quality of the grounds.

One brand that changes the overall aesthetics is Niche. They add Oak Wood accents on some of the parts to show a more premium look. By utilizing this, the usage of different types of wood on different parts could help distinguish the product from others and also give a rustic aesthetic as well. Walnut and Black Stainless Steel is a simple but sleek combination

While the finishes for the metal and plastic parts are similar to "Better" price point products, the wooden accents can vary to match the overall visual looks of the product. Satin finishes usually fit in most product's looks and could be used in most "Best" price point products.
